Winter Canola

Importance of research topics

Previous studies agree that fall stand establishment and winter survival has been suggested main limitations that producers are facing as it influences the success of the winter canola crop, increasing the gap between the attainable and actual yields.

Understanding the impact of planting technologies in the stand establishment and the environment on winter survival will help closing yield gaps, also we require the correct utilization of resources with accurate and practical management practices.

Different scenarios and their impact on biomass, nutrient accumulation, and yield need quantification to properly address producer's practices. Agricultural systems must sustainably reduce yield gaps and improve the efficiency in capturing and utilizing resources and inputs for increasing productivity and profitability.

Environmental factors affecting winter canola survival in the United States - a summary of 190 site-years

Objectives: i) retrieve, evaluate and quantify the most relevant environment variables for characterizing winter canola survival and ii) estimate the probabilities on presenting winter-type weather that is more prone to winter kill across the United States.

Source-sink modifications in Winter Canola in the Great Plains in the USA

Objectives: i)Assess the impact of source: sink manipulations in the seed filling period (SFP) and its main parameters such as SFP duration, and rate, water, and dry matter dynamics and, ii) investigate treatment (source: sink, nitrogen level ) effects on fatty acid and N: S evolution during the SFP to understand final concentration for oil and protein.
